DRIFT stages their first-ever indoor aerial drone performance titled Social Sacrifice. Exploring the swarming dynamics exhibited by a school of fish encountering a predator, the work highlights the tensions that emerge between collective action and individual freedom, as well as how these change in the presence of external threats.

DRIFT now presents 94 NFT’s that all represent one fish from the school of fish used in the drone performance ‘Social Sacrifice’. The digital works correspond to the physical artwork and are inspired by the collective way in which a schooling group reacts to danger, and how they work together to avert the danger. It also represents how some fish in the group convert to those who are the predators, and how this can also be reversed. The NFT’s are completely based on the drone performance, which means that the coordinates in the physical drone performance are exactly the same as the ones in the show that will be virtually shown in the NFT. The choreographed animations consist of various algorithms and the type of behaviour that is displayed can influence artificial intelligence.

For the NFT’s DRIFT collaborates with digital art pioneer and musician Don Diablo, who designed the audio.
